Overview

Punjab province is bestowed with rich natural resources, hard working population and immense opportunities for investment. Due to liberal industrial policy and improvement in the infrastructure facilities, the investment climate in the industrial sector significantly improved number of Industries particularly the fields of automobiles, power generations, pharmaceuticals, textiles, leathers, surgical instruments, food processes and computer software industries. Directorate of Industries, Punjab is making efforts for the promotion and facilitation of the industries. Land acquisition facility and basic data on industrial statistics, in the form of industrial directory, district pre-investment studies and survey reports is available for the guidance of entrepreneurs.

The Directorate of Industries envisions promoting and facilitating the industries in Punjab.

Under Industrial Location Policy 2003, foreign investors are permitted to hold 100% of the equity of industrial projects without any permission of the Government. No prior government sanction is required for the establishment of an industry out side negative area declared by the district governments, irrespective of the cost and size. However, following industries cannot be setup without prior approval of the Government:

  • Arms and Ammunition
  • Security printing, Currency and Mint
  • High explosives
  • Radio-active substances
  • Alcoholic beverages or liquors
  • Sugar Mils

Functions performed at Provincial level

  • District Level
    • Control, Monitoring and Stabilization of prices of essential commodities
    • Feedback to Directorate of Industries regarding:
    • Up-dating of District Pre-investment Studies
    • Census of Manufacturing Industries (CMI) Returns
    • Preparation of Industrial Directory on District basis
    • Registration of Firms under Partnership Act, 1932
    • Registration of Societies/Associations under the Societies Registration Act 1860 and under Companies Ordinance, 1984
    • Feedback to the Government of Punjab on formulating industrial/trade import and export policies
    • Forward planning, promotion and development of medium and large scale industrial sector
    • Liaison with Chambers of Commerce & Industry and Feedback to the Provincial Govt
    • Organizing the Industrial Exhibitions
    Provincial Level
    • To implement ‘The Punjab Industries (Control on Establishment & Enlargement), Act, 1963’ in line with Industrial Location Policy notified from time to time
    • Collection of Industrial Statistics and Census of Manufacturing Industries (CMI) through Industrial survey under the Industrial Statistics Act, 1942
    • To conduct door to door survey of Industrial Units under Statistical Act 1975
    • To assist the entrepreneurs for acquisition of land under Land Acquisition Act, 1894
    • To Implement ‘Punjab Boilers & Pressure Vessels Act, 2013’ and Registration of Boilers under this Ordinance
    • To conduct Examination of Boiler Competency bi-annually
    • Publication of District Pre-Investment Studies of 36 Districts of Punjab
    • Publication of Directory of Industrial Establishment in the Punjab
      • Registration of Firms under Partnership Act, 1932
      • Registration of Societies/Associations under the Societies Registration Act 1860 and under Companies Ordinance, 1984
    • To hold Industrial Exhibitions and establish Industrial Parks
