  • ICI&SDD has recently developed the Punjab Industrial Policy 2018, which has been approved by the provincial cabinet. The policy addresses the factor markets issues for market failures and provides support to address information failures that constrain industrial performance
  • The policy has made some over-arching targets for the sector over the next five years by 2023 which include; achieving an average industrial growth of 10% per annum; increasing the formal employment creation to 1.2 million annually; training 0.5 million skilled labour annually & improving product competitiveness in priority sectors
  • The department has notified Industrial Strategy & Skills Strategy

TVET Sector Initiatives

  • Achievement of DLIs under Project Implementation Unit/ Punjab Skills Development Project (PSDP)
  • Establishment of Punjab Skills Development Authority PSDA
  • Establishment of Punjab Skills Testing Agency (PSTA)
  • Improvement of Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA)
  • Introduction of Competence Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) in TEVTA
  • Establishment of Punjab Skills Advisory Forum (PSAF) in Punjab
  • Unifying PVTC, PSDF and P-TEVTA under the administrative control of ICI & SDD to streamline TVET sector in Punjab
  • Hunarmand Nojawan initiative for provision of teachers, equipment and revised curriculum in exiting TVET institutions by TEVTA (PKR 1500 Million)

Schemes to Promote SMEs

  • Progressing Punjab by Entrepreneurial Development of SMEs (PPED)” has been  approved at a cost of Rs. 6  Billion with a target of establishing around 30,000 SMEs and 450,000 direct employment 
  • “Development of SME Sector though loan markup support program (LMSP)” approved at a cost of Rs. 3 Billion with a target of supporting 7475 SMEs and 112, 125  direct jobs will be created in 5 ES
  • “Credit Guarantee Scheme for SMEs” worth Rs. 2.5 Billion will target 6250 SMEs in 5 years and about 93,750 jobs will be created   
  • PKR 500 million has been allocated for Interest free loan up to PKR100,000 per person. These are being provided to 7000 individuals who are graduates of TEVT Institutions
  • In order to create awareness about Punjab Consumer Protection Act, 2005 and institutions established thereunder, instructions issued to the District Consumer Protection Councils to deliver lectures/ presentations in the educational institutions in respective districts 

Punjab Model Bazaar Management Company

  • Punjab Model Bazaar Management Company has established 32 Model Bazaars in Punjab 
  • to provide essential commodities at cheaper rates

Establishment of Technical Universities

  • In order to enhance Skills and for better absorption in job market, following Universities are being established:
  • Punjab Tianjin University of Technology, Lahore (Rs.3074.00 Million)
  • Punjab University of Technology, Rasul, M. B Din (Rs. 2165.192 Million)
  • Mir Chakkar Khan Rind University of Technology, D,G, Khan (Rs. 2,000 Million)
  • University of Technology, Rawalpindi (Rs. 3000 Million)

Coming Up Initiatives

  • Deli JE Glass-ware Limited worth USD 200 million will generate some 1500 job opportunities.
  • JV with Al-Futtaim Automotive Pakistan Pvt. Ltd & Renault Car Manufacturing Plant worth USD 167 million has been facilitated which is likely to result in creation of 500 Job opportunities
  • JW Foton, a JV between JW Group Pakistan and Foton China worth USD 150 Million is estimated to result in some 300 jobs
  • Set up of Hayat Kimya a Turkish FMCG producer worth USD 336 Million and is likely to create some 1500 jobs Times Ceramics China setup worth USD 50 Million and will create 2000 jobs
