World Trade Organization

The World Trade Organization (WTO) Cell was established by the Planning & Development (P&D) Department in 2003. The WTO Cell was transferred to ICI&SD Department on July 01, 2009.

The mandate of WTO Cell is Registration of Geographical Indicators as per WTO regime to facilitate the stakeholders in protecting their Intellectual Property Rights. Its main objectives are such as to identify GIs of Punjab, to create awareness among the stakeholders through seminars, to form and register the associations of the stakeholders for the protection of their respective product/commodity, to file applications for registration of Certification Marks with the Trade Marks Registrar (TMR), Government of Pakistan, provide guidance for production, marketing, development and protection of the GIs of Punjab.
